Copa America 2024: Uruguay vs Panama: Goals, Highlights


Uruguay were impressive in their opening match of the 2024 Copa America as they beat Panama 3-1 in Florida on Monday, June 25, 2024.

Goals from Maximilian Araujo, Darwin Nunez, and Matias Vina against Panama ensured that Uruguay went level on points with USA in Group C of the 2024 Copa America. Marcelo Bielsa's men were rewarded for their pressure against Panama when Araujo fired home a sublime curling effort from the edge of the area in the 16th minute. The first half ended 1-0.

Panama grew into the match after the break but failed to get themselves back into the game after wasting several chances. Jose Fajardo blasted an effort wide in the 52nd minute after a defensive error by Mathias Olivera, while Jose Rodriguez tested Uruguay goalkeeper Sergio Rochet with a shot but could not find the net.

Nunez finally scored a goal in the 85th minute following a rebound that kindly dropped kindly for him to slot home the second for Uruguay. Vina scored the third, before Michael Amir Murillo netted a consolation goal for Panama after cutting back onto his left foot and curling his shot into the net.

Uruguay next face Bolivia in New Jersey on Thursday, June 28, 2024, while Panama take on the United States in Atlanta.
