Chelsea recalls David Datro Fofana from loan

Chelsea football club have recalled its forward player, David Fofana from his loan deal at Union Berlin.

The 22-year-old striker had been expected to join Sevilla on another loan, but that move might be halted after Ian Maatsen agreed to join Borussia Dortmund. He made 17 appearances for the Bundesliga side including 11 starts, he had managed just 2 goals in all competitions

Chelsea's decision to recall Fofana freed up an international loan spot for the club, this will allow Maatsen to join Dortmund until the end of the season (2023/24). This means the forward player will not be able to join a club on loan outside English due to FIFA's law which states that football clubs can only allow a specific number of players to leave on loan outside the country where their club resides.

However, Sevilla must wait to see if Chelsea can cancel another loan move or sell one of those seven players currently filling their limited loan spots.

The Blues have Maatsen, Hakim Ziyech, Romelu Lukaku, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Gabriel Slonina, Diego Moreira and Angelo Gabriel out on loan.
