Chelsea FC in an official statement have confirmed the withdrawal of a first-team player from the England squad for fitness-related reasons.

The announcement was made by Chelsea in an official statement where it was confirmed that Carney Chukwuemeka had departed from the England U-23 squad on the grounds of him working on his fitness.

Craney who had joined the squad did not feature in the first international friendly fixture for England and his withdrawal also indicates that he will not be available for the second as well. The statement read, "Carney Chukwuemeka has returned to Chelsea from international duty early. The midfielder was called up to the England Under-21 side for the first time earlier this month for games against Azerbaijan and Luxembourg, but wasn’t used in the former and will now miss the latter having returned to Cobham. Chukwuemeka returns early to work on his fitness at Cobham, as he looks to play a key role in the remainder of the season for Chelsea as Mauricio Pochettino’s Blues look for a strong end to the campaign."
