Chelsea and Napoli open fresh transfer talks for Victor Osimhen

Reports have now confirmed that Chelsea and Napoli have begun fresh talks for a potential move for Victor Osimhen in the summer 2024 transfer window.

Chelsea are reportedly negotiating to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli, which could involve sending Romelu Lukaku in the opposite direction in the Summer 2024 transfer window.

Chelsea have struggled to find what has been categorized as the best striker replacement since the departure of Diego Costa, so it is no surprise that Osimhen has been a key target for the Blues. The club is also keen to offload Lukaku, who has been deemed a £98 million flop and sees a potential double deal with Napoli as an excellent opportunity.

According to The Athletic, Chelsea is in discussions with Napoli to send Lukaku to Naples. In return, they hope to secure an initial loan agreement for Osimhen, with an option to buy the 25-year-old next summer. If the deal goes through, Lukaku would reunite with Antonio Conte, his former Inter Milan coach, who is now the head coach at Napoli.

Lukaku transfer news update

Lukaku's second stint at Chelsea was disappointing, lasting only one full season after rejoining from Inter in 2021. He then returned to Inter on loan a year later and spent the last season on loan with Roma. Despite scoring 23 league goals across these loans, it seemed unlikely that Lukaku would be reintegrated into Chelsea's first team.

Lukaku has attracted interest from Saudi Arabian clubs willing to offer a substantial salary, but he prefers to stay in Europe. A move to Napoli could provide a permanent solution for the former Manchester United and Everton star. It remains to be seen if Victor Osimhen will consider the transfer to Chelsea on loan in the summer 2024 transfer window.
