In an official announcement today, Friday, August 4, 2023, Chelsea unveiled the seventh player signing for the summer 2023 transfer window as the return of club football draws closer.

The statement revealed, "Chelsea is pleased to confirm the signing of France international Axel Disasi from Monaco. The centre-back has agreed a six-year contract at Stamford Bridge and arrives with a wealth of top-level experience. Disasi has made 130 appearances in Ligue 1, been capped four times by France, and was part of his country’s squad for last year’s World Cup in Qatar."

It was reported that Chelsea made the signing as a replacement for the injured Wesley Fofana who would be out for almost half of the 2023/2024 season after tearing his ACL before the pre-season of the Blues.

Speaking on his move to Chelsea, Axel Disasi revealed, "It’s something I’ve been waiting for. I am so happy to be here, at this big club. I am really proud to be able to be a part of this great family, and I hope to achieve very big things here. To win titles. I will do everything I can to achieve those objectives. I am very ambitious. I can’t wait to feel the energy of the fans. This is a very good stadium, one where you have a beautiful proximity to the fans. A typical English stadium, I think. The fervour of the fans in the Premier League, the atmosphere, the intensity of the games: it is something that excites me."

Axel's stats are very impressive and Pochettino would be looking to develop on it and further strengthen his side ahead of a busy and action-packed season in the league with no European football in the horizon for the blues this season.
