Chelsea confirms the signing of Renato Veiga

Renato Veiga becomes the sixth player to join Chelsea Football Club ahead of the 2024/25 season as they continue in their quest to build a formidable squad.

Chelsea confirmed the signing of the Portuguese international on its official website on Friday, July 12, 2024. According to reports from the club, Renato Veiga signed a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge, which includes a further one-year option, and will join Enzo Maresca’s first-team squad for pre-season training.

Veiga expressed his delight on the club's website during his first interview with the Blues.

He said,

"I am absolutely buzzing to be here, this is one of the biggest clubs in England the biggest for me and I’m just really excited to get started.'’

The 20-year-old made his debut for Sporting B four years ago in September 2020, where he spent the next two years to gain experience in the third tier of Portuguese football with the side.

In January 2023, Renato completed a loan move to Bundesliga club Augsburg. He spent seven months in Germany, having played 13 times in the Bundesliga before earning a move to Basel.

Chelsea supporters will hope the Portuguese international breaks into the team and help them challenge for the Premier League title and other cup competitions that they will be competing in when the season starts.
