Chelsea confirm the exit of Edouard Mendy

Chelsea Football Club have confirmed the exit of its number one shot-stopper, Edouard Mendy when they won the UEFA Champions League in 2021.

The Blues announced that the Senegalese will join Saudi Arabian professional league side, Al-Ahli, on its official website on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, he signed a three-year deal with will keep him at the club at least until 2026. Edouard Mendy fell off the pecking order at Chelsea following the appointment of Graham Potter who was hired as a replacement of Thomas Tuchel.

The 31-year-old will be remembered for his key role in helping Chelsea win its second Champions League trophy against Manchester City in Stamford 2021. Mendy conceded just twice in seven knockout matches which earned him the best goalkeeper in the competition.

Mendy also won the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup, after he won the Africa Cup of Nations final for Senegal against Egypt. He was also named the Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper.

The 31-year-old became the second goalkeeper in Chelsea history to be shortlisted for Yashin Trophy where he came in second place.
