Chelsea completes the signing of Renato Veiga

Chelsea Football Club have completed the signing of Portuguese international defender Renato Veiga from FC Basel on an eight-year deal.

Transfer news expert, Fabrizio Romano confirmed the news on his official X account, according to him, Renato Veiga has completed his medical and will sign his Chelsea contract on Thursday, July 11, 2024. The Blues agreed a deal worth €14m with Swiss side FC Basel for the Portugal under-20 international who signed a deal that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2032.

He becomes the club's sixth summer signing after Tosin Adarabioyo, Estevao Willian, Omari Kellyman, Marc Guiu, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

Chelsea supporters will expect Veiga to be drafted into the first team, he will be part of Chelsea's pre-season tour of America later this month before a final decision is taken on whether he’s ready to be part of the first-team squad or needs a loan to further his development.

He also sent a goodbye message to FC Basel supporters, he thanked them for the support they showed him during his time at the club.

He said,

This past season we didn't achieve nowhere near the goals that a club of the dimension of Basel demands but I am sure that will the new crew in board and with your support behind, that will bring Basel back to where it belongs. The Blues are also in the market for a winger and a striker but they will wait and see how Guiu and Christopher Nkunku do in pre-season before making a move for a new striker.
