Chelsea completes the signing of a Belgian goalkeeper

Chelsea Football Club have completed the signing of a Belgian goalkeeper, Mike Penders, who will remain at Genk until the end of this season (2024/25).

The Blues confirmed the signing of the teenager of its website on Tuesday, August 27, 2024. Chelsea signed Mike Penders for a fee in the region of £ 17 million to become the latest addition to a busy transfer window at Stamford Bridge.

Mike Penders signed an eight-year deal contract which will keep him at the club until 2032 and will spend next season back at Belgian side Genk.

He is the eighth goalkeeper that will be on the club's wage bill which includes, Robert Sanchez, Djordje Petrovic, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Marcus Bettinelli, Lucas Bergstrom, Eddie Beach, and Filip Jorgensen.

Jorgensen was signed earlier in the window from Villarreal for a reported £20.7 million. Penders has been at Genk since 2018 and has been immediately loaned back to the club before his move to London next summer.

Sanchez has been named by Enzo Maresca as the number-one goalkeeper in the League while Filip Jorgensen would be in charge of the cup games.
