CAF reveal Pots ahead of AFCON 2023 draw

The body governing football in Africa, the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has placed the teams in different pots ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations ( AFCON) draw.

The 24 teams were placed in four pots, with the top teams according to FIFA rankings placed in Pot 1 alongside the host nation, Cote D'Ivoire.

Nigeria are placed in Pot 2 alongside some of the powerhouses in African football. Five times AFCON winners, Cameroon, four times winners, Ghana, finalists in 1972 and 2013, Mali and Burkina Faso are also in the same pot, and two times winner, DR Congo completes the six teams in the pot.

The draw for the competition will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2023, while the competition will start on January 13, 2024 and end on February 11, 2024.
