The President of CAF Patrice Motsepe has broken the silence about the ongoing controversy surrounding the final of AFCON 2025 between Morocco and Senegal.

Motsepe confirmed that the decision taken by CAF was just and fair, despite reports from most football stakeholders in Africa and around the world. According to him, he gave the prize money and Gold medals to the Senegal players but he had to follow the rules of the game.

What did Motsepe say about the AFCON 2025?

He said,

"I gave Sadio Mané the gold medal! I gave Koulibaly the gold medal! I gave Sadio Mané the trophy! I gave Sadio Mané. 10 million American dollars! However, I must follow the law and respect the rules. "

What happened?

CAF announced a few months after Senegal was crowned Champions of the AFCON 2025 that the trophy would be handed over to Morocco after Senegal were accused of walking off from the game.

The final itself was filled with tension and key moments that sparked controversy, particularly surrounding officiating decisions. Several incidents during the match led to widespread debate, with some questioning whether the game had been managed at the highest standard expected for a tournament of AFCON’s stature.

However, Senegal have appealed CAF's decision by submitting an appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport ( CAS).
