CAF Announce Qualification Procedure for 2026 FIFA World Cup

The Confederation of African Football ( CAF) has announced the qualification process for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The body made the announcement on its official website on Friday, May 19th, 2023. According to the statement from CAF, 10 teams will represent Africa at one of the most lucrative football competitions in the World.

The 54 member nations of CAF will be divided into 9 groups, the teams that finish top in each group will book an automatic qualification to the competition. The four best runners-up (from the Groups) will play in a CAF Play-Off tournament, while the winner (CAF Play-Off tournament) will play in the FIFA Play-off Tournament.

The new format has been adapted in line with FIFA’s expanded FIFA World Cup format, 48 countries will participate in the competition for the first time. The 2026 World Cup finals will be hosted by Canada, Mexico and United States of America.
