CAF and FIFA reach an agreement on a change of date for AFCON 2025
The date for the 35th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations which will be hosted in Morocco next year (2025) will be played at a later date as against June 2025 which was initially announced.
The Morocco FA had initially announced that the competition would be played in June 2025. However, there were concerns from various stakeholders that the 2025 AFCON would clash with the FIFA Club World Cup which would also be played in June 2025.
The reports coming from the camp of FIFA and CAF have agreed in principle that the competition will be played from the middle of July to the middle of August. The reason for this is to allow players represent their various clubs in the competition.
Recall that CAF had announced that the draw for the preliminary rounds of the competition will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2024.
