Pep Guardiola has named an unexpected starting lineup for the first Premier League fixture of the 2023/2024 season, Burnley vs. Man City.

In his typical fashion, Pep Guardiola has mixed things up a little with his starting lineup ahead of the opening fixture of the Premier League, Burnley vs. Man City. The champions, who would take on the newly promoted Burnley side, which is coached by former captain Vincent Kompany, would start the game without John Stones and Jack Grealish.

The club's new signings, Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol, have been placed on the bench for this fixture and will be looking to make a difference as the game progresses. The highest goalscorer for the 2022/2023 season, Erling Haaland, also starts and would be looking to get his name on the scoresheet as well.

Manchester City, who are the current champions, would be looking to make an emphatic start to their title defence this season and here is the side that would be playing the first game for the Cityzens:

CITY: Ederson, Walker, Akanji, Ake, Lewis, Rodrigo, De Bruyne (C), Bernardo, Foden, Alvarez, Haaland

Subs: Ortega Moreno, Phillips, Kovačić, Grealish, Laporte, Gómez, Gvardiol, Palmer, McAtee
