Bruno Fernandes Speaks on the termination of Fernando Santos' Contract with Portugal

The deputy captain of Manchester United, Bruno Fernandes is one of the few players to react to the decision to terminate Fernando Santos' contract.

Fernandes sent an emotional message to Santos, thanking him for giving him the breakthrough into the national team. He also thanked him for putting Portugal on the World map most especially in Europe.

Many thanks to mister Fernando Santos. Thank you for the opportunity to represent our country and for the trust in us over the past few years. As a Portuguese, thank you for putting Portugal at the top of Europe and returning confidence and belief to a ‘small’ country that it was possible to be among the ‘big ones. Moments of glory and joy and others of sadness and frustration, but history was made and will forever be marked in the hearts of all Portuguese.

The news of the contract termination was announced by the Portuguese Football Association. FPF thanked Fernando Santos and his technical team for the services provided over eight unique years.

However, there are rumors that Santos was sacked because he decided to drop Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench against Morocco in the quarter-final game of the FIFA World Cup.
