Behdad Eghbali sends message to Chelsea fans ahead of huge protest

As pressure continues to mount around Chelsea FC, co-owner Behdad Eghbali has addressed supporters in a rare and timely message ahead of a planned fan protest before the game against Man United.
The American businessman acknowledged the growing frustration among the fanbase, admitting that the club’s recent struggles were both on and off the pitch. However, he urged supporters to remain patient, emphasising that the ownership group is committed to a long-term vision aimed at restoring Chelsea to the top of English and European football.
What did Eghbali say about the Chelsea crisis?
"We have got to be better on a few things, to add more ready-made players at this part of the project, to take it to the next level, to be consistent over time. We recognise we need balance. We have world champions, Champions League winners, and elite young players. Experience has developed now”
He continued,
"We want the club to be successful. We’re focused on delivering that on-pitch performance. Six months ago everyone was super-happy. Results have been mixed, disappointing more recently. There’s a full reflection on what we can do better”
Why are Chelsea fans protesting?
The Chelsea supporters are planning demonstrations against the ownership model, citing concerns such as:, youth-heavy recruitment strategy with limited short-term success, frequent managerial changes.
Eghbali pointed to the highlights of rebuilding a squad in transition, particularly after a period marked by heavy spending and frequent managerial changes. While backing current head coach Liam Rosenior, he admitted that instability in the dugout has had a negative impact on results, something the club is actively working to address.
The Chelsea co-owner also hinted at a shift in recruitment strategy, suggesting that future transfer windows could see a more balanced approach combining emerging talents with experienced players capable of delivering immediate impact. This comes amid criticism that the club’s recent focus on youth has left the squad lacking leadership in key moments.
Despite the unrest, Eghbali remained optimistic, insisting that the current structure will eventually bring success. He reiterated that the ownership group believes in its project and is determined to see it through, even as fan dissatisfaction grows louder.
The protest itself reflects deeper concerns among supporters, including the club’s identity, decision-making at the board level, and performances on the pitch.
