America's Madison Keys staged an upset in the second semi-final of the 2025 Australian Open having defeated number two seed, Iga Swiatek for a place in the final.

Madison Keys came into the entertaining game as the least favourite as he was tagged the second best to her Iga Swiatek at the Rod Laver Arena on Thursday, January 23, 2025. The spectators under the roofs and lights were thrilled to an amazing three sets which ended 5-7 6-1 7-6 (10-8) win in a match fit for a final.

Swiatek was aiming for her sixth grand slam title, and had not dropped her serve since the first round but was broken eight times by Keys, who saved a match point in a game which lasted for 2hr 35min. This is the first time that the American will reach the final of the Australian Open.

Defending Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka breezed her way past Paula Badosa in a 6-4 6-2 victory to book her spot in the final match and set up the chance to win a third title in a row at this tournament.

Aryna leads the head-to-head 4-1 and has won their last 3 meetings. The last time they played in a Grand Slam was the US Open Semifinal in 2023, which Aryna won in three sets. Aryna is 3-1 in Grand Slam Finals and is looking to win her 3rd consecutive Australian Open title.

Keys is the oldest Women’s Singles finalist at the Australian Open since Serena and Venus Williams in 2017.
