The Australian Open started today ( Monday, January 16th, 2022) in Melbourne, the first day saw a few upsets as the big names advanced to the second round of the competition.

Women's defending Champion, Naomi Osaka advanced to the next round with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Maria Camila. 15th seed Elina Svitolina also got past her opponent, Fiona Ferro in the first round by beating her 6-1, 7-6(4).

There was also a win for Women's World Number 1 player, Ashleigh Barty got past Lesia Tsurenko in straight sets 6-0 6-2 to book a spot in the next round. In the battle of the Americans, Madison Keys beat Sofia Kenin 7-6(2), 7-5, while Victoria Azarenka also got a win over Panna Udvardy 6-3, 6-1.

In the Men's category, 20-time grand slam winner, Rafael Nadal got past Marcos Giron 6-1, 6-4,6-2 to advance to the second round. Fabio Fognini was beaten in straight sets by Tallon Griekspoor 6-1, 6-4,6-4. Kevin Anderson was beaten by Reilly Opelka 6-3,6-4,7-6(3).
