Aston Villa reportedly beats Man United to sign main transfer target

Aston Villa according to reports have reportedly reached an agreement with one of Man United's key transfer targets in the June 2024 window.

Aston Villa is on the verge of finalizing the acquisition of Everton's midfielder and one of Man United's key transfer targets, Amadou Onana for an estimated £50 million.

The 22-year-old, who represented Belgium at Euro 2024, is reportedly poised to join a team participating in the 2024/2025 Champions League following Villa's qualification under the management of Unai Emery.

Onana, who moved from Lille to Everton for £33 million in August 2022, has played 72 matches and scored four goals for the Toffees. While Arsenal had initial talks with Onana's representatives earlier this year, they did not pursue their interest further.

The proposed fee from Villa aligns with Everton's midfielder valuation, which has also attracted interest from Manchester United.

Following the sale of Douglas Luiz to Juventus for £42.35 million last month, Aston Villa has been in search of a new midfielder.

Amadou Onana

Amadou Onana stats

Amadou Onana is a vital player for Everton, serving as a central midfielder who performs both defensive and offensive duties. Defensively, Onana excels in ball recovery, intercepting passes, tackling opponents, and regaining possession for his team. His central positioning is crucial as it allows him to cover passing lanes and protect the defense. Moreover, his ability to press opponents high up the pitch disrupts their build-up play, making it challenging for them to advance.

Onana also provides offensive contributions. As a deep-lying playmaker, he distributes the ball with precision, facilitating the transition from defense to attack. His impressive passing range enables him to create opportunities for his teammates. Onana also advances the ball by carrying it forward, effectively connecting the defense to the midfield and creating attacking chances. Although it is not his primary role, he occasionally takes shots from a distance, adding another dimension to his offensive skill set.
