André Ayew issues public apology to Ghanaians for AFCON 2023 performance

After Ghana's exit from AFCON 2023, the Black Stars captain, André Ayew, has publicly come out to tender an apology.

He tendered the apology in a video posted on social media. André apologised to all Ghanaians and Black Star fans for their below-par performance at the AFCON 2023.

Ghana lost their opening game at the AFCON 2023 to Cape Verde, then proceeded to draw at two other games when they were facing Egypt and Mozambique. This eventually resulted in their exit from the tournament.

Before André‘s apology, the Ghana Football Association had sacked their coach, Chris Hughton, who had been coaching the Black Stars since February 2023. After sacking him, they dissolved the technical team and resolved to design a roadmap for the future of Ghanaian football.

André said in his video that he takes full responsibility for their loss and understands the reasons for the backlash the team has received so far. He also says that he believes this loss will make them stronger.

To conclude, he said “We are Ghana… We are never going to give up… We’ll rise and shine again… to make sure to put our flag where it belongs… May God bless our homeland Ghana.”
