AFCON 2025: Super Eagles first team player ruled out of Morocco clash

SHARE

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will be without their captain Wilfred Ndidi when they file out against the host nation, Morocco in the semi-final of the Africa Cup of Nations ( AFCON).

Ndidi picked up his second yellow card of the tournament during Nigeria’s 2–0 victory over Algeria on Saturday, triggering an automatic one-match ban. He has been booked in the group-stage win over Mozambique, leaving him one caution away from suspension and he picked up a second yellow card.

The trio of Calvin Bassey and Frank Onyeka, along with the Leicester City were all on one yellow card heading into the game against Algeria. However, Ndidi was the only one of the trio who received a booking against the Desert Foxes.

This is a big blow for Nigeria as they will be looking to reach the final of AFCON for the second time in two consecutive competitions after losing the last one against the host nation, Ivory Coast in 2023.

Ndidi will be available for selection for either the third-place play-off or the final, depending on how Nigeria fare in their semi-final clash.
