AFCON 2025: Senegal advance to the quarter-finals

The Terenga Lions of Senegal have continued in their quest to win the Africa Cup of Nations ( AFCON) for the second time in the past three editions.
Senegal have been impressive since the beginning of the competition taking down everyteam that faced in the group phase. The latest team to get slayed by the Lions of Terenga are Sudan as they won the game 3-1 to reach the quarter-final of AFCON 2025 edition of the competition.
What happened between Senegal and Sudan?
Pape Gueye scored a brace as Senegal came from a goal down to beat Sudan 3-1 at the African Cup of Nations.
Sudan's hopes of making history came alive when Aamir Abdallah's stunning strike gave them an early lead, but Gueye scored twice ahead of half-time before Ibrahim Mbaye secured the win in the 77th minute.
Abdallah opened the scoring after just six minutes, curling the ball from the edge of the box and into the top left corner as Senegal were caught cold in the early stages at Grand Stade de Tanger.
Senegal are now unbeaten in their last 15 AFCON matches (W10 D5) since losing the 2019 final to Algeria (1-0). Only Nigeria (16 from 1992 to 2002) and Egypt (24 from 2004 to 2017) have ever enjoyed longer runs without defeat at the finals.
