AFCON 2023 hero William Troost-Ekong speaks on a possible move to Saudi Arabia

Super Eagles of Nigeria captain and the player of the tournament at AFCON 2023, William Troost-Ekong has addressed reports of him considering a possible move to Saudi Arabia.

William Troost-Ekong, a Nigerian defender who plays for Greek Super League team PAOK Salonica, has expressed his openness to playing in the Saudi Arabia Professional Football League in the future. The 30-year-old recently won the coveted Most Valuable Player (MVP) award at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations held in Cote d’Ivoire.

During the competition, his impressive performance caught the attention of several clubs in the Saudi Arabian top-flight league. Troost-Ekong, who previously played for Watford, has indicated that he would be keen to explore the possibility of playing in Saudi Arabia if he had the opportunity to do so.

He said, “I can’t tell you that now because it’s not right in front of me. The Saudi League is something which is exciting, you saw quite a lot of the best players who were part of the AFCON have headed in that direction and are playing there. If that option is in front of me, then, I will have to study it a bit more and consider it.”

When asked the question about his desire to share the field with the Portuguese football legend, Cristiano Ronaldo, He said; “Who wouldn’t? One of the best players in the world. We’ll have to see what happens but I’m happy at PAOK.”
