AFCON 2023: Violence breaks out in Ivory Coast after defeat against Equatorial Guinea

The 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations has not gone as expected for the host nation ( Ivory Coast) following the team's performance at the competition.

Ivorians came into this competition with the hope of going far in the tournament but the performance has been the direct opposite of what was expected. The supporters expressed their displeasure violently after they were thrashed 4-0 by Equatorial Guinea.

The team bus was vandalised after the game by some angry supporters after the game which was played on Monday, January 21, 2024. However, Ivory Coast has an opportunity to qualify for the Round of 16 via the best losers route to remain in the competition.

Equatorial Guinea tops the group with seven points, the same number of points as Nigeria but they finish top of the group with seven goals and a better goal difference.
