AFCON 2021: Defending Champion Algeria Get Knocked out of AFCON

Defending Champion of the African Cup of Nations ( AFCON ), Algeria have been knocked out from the competition following a defeat to Ivory Coast.

Algeria drew their opening game against Sierra Leone. The North Africans were left stunned in their second game against Equatorial Guinea.

Algeria needed a win in their last game against Ivory Coast but that dream did not see the light of day as they were beaten by 3-1 by the Elephants. The defending champions were two goals behind at halftime. A goal from Nicolas Pepe in the second half put an end to the .contest.

Mahrez missed a penalty to compound the woes of Algeria. Sofiane Bendebka scored a consolation goal but it was a little too late
