The Super Eagles qualified to the next round following victories in all their three group games while Tunisia qualified based on one of the best third placed teams. Eguavoen was speaking with NFF TV on Friday, January 21st, 2022 a day after the final round of preliminary group games.

He said, he expects a tough game against the North Africans but the Super Eagles will do everything to come out top at the end of the game.

They have had ups and downs. The first game, I think ended in a dramatic fashion. They have lost two penalties in two games as well in open play. Yesterday, they lost narrowly towards the end of the game ao for their having qualified for the knock out stage, it is a different ball game. In the Round of 16, if you don't get it, you are off and if you get it, you are through to the quarter-finals. It is going to be a very different game. It is a good team, technically good, they are fast as well, typical North African, so we will find a way to counter them and are how we can come top at the end of the day.

The last time the Super Eagles played Tunisia at the African Cup of Nations was in 2004 in the quarter-final stage. Nigeria won the game 6-5 on penalties after playing 1-1 in regulation time.

The game will be played on Sunday, January 23rd, 2022 at 8 pm ( GMT).
