(1) He’s a former professional player turned coach
Rosenior enjoyed a long playing career primarily as a full-back or winger with over 400 senior appearances for clubs like Bristol City, Fulham, Reading, Hull City and Brighton & Hove Albion. He also represented England at U20 and U21 level.
(2) Chelsea is his biggest managerial job yet
At 41, Rosenior has only three years of managerial experience before joining Chelsea with spells at Hull City and French Ligue 1 side Strasbourg and he’s never managed in the Premier League before.
(3) Long-term contract
Chelsea have given Rosenior a six-and-a-half-year deal running until 2032 a rare show of long-term trust for a relatively inexperienced coach.
(4) Historically significant
Rosenior becomes only the second Black head coach in Chelsea’s history and one of the very few Black British managers to lead a Premier League club marking an important moment for representation in English football.
(5) Football Heritage
His coaching journey was shaped early including by his dad. Rosenior grew up around football and had coaching in his blood from a young age. His father, Leroy Rosenior, was himself a professional player and manager, and Liam often absorbed tactical discussions and match-day insights from him as a child.
