SHARE

With the group stage nearing its conclusion, the race to secure one of the eight best third-placed spots in the expanded 48-team FIFA World Cup is heating up.

Several nations have already strengthened their chances of reaching the Round of 32, others still have everything to play for heading into their final group matches. After two matches played, Sweden and Scotland lead the third-placed rankings with three points and a superior goal difference, putting them in a strong position to progress.

Croatia, Algeria, and Paraguay also occupy qualification spots with three points, although their inferior goal differences mean they cannot afford any slip-ups.

The remaining provisional qualification places are held by Cape Verde and Belgium, both on two points, while Czechia currently clings to the final qualifying position with one point. Just outside the top eight are DR Congo, Ecuador, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, all of whom remain in contention ahead of the final round of group fixtures.
