Six years after the release of the project that solidified his status as a voice for the marginalized, the Iyoo Cartel general, Jeriq, has finally unveiled HOOD BOY DREAMS 2. The 6-track EP serves as a direct sequel to his breakout 2020 project, and it is every bit as uncompromising as its predecessor. While the first volume was a declaration of intent, Volume 2 is a testimony of arrival, documenting the transition from a dreamer on the streets of Enugu to a king in the African hip-hop scene.

The EP opens with the powerful BORN TO BE GREAT, a track that sets the tone with its cinematic production and Jeriq’s signature gravelly flow. The project is a vivid tapestry of the East-Side experience, blending hard-hitting trap beats with his usual Igbo lingos. Tracks like PAIN and TEN STREET COMMANDMENT dive deep into the complexities of success, exploring the betrayals, the heavy crown of leadership, and the spiritual grit required to survive the Nigerian music industry.

Musically, HOOD BOY DREAMS 2 shows significant growth in Jeriq’s artistry. The production, handled largely by Dr Jayswaarg and Theevandrillist, is polished yet retains the gritty texture that fans expect. Jeriq’s lyricism is sharper than ever, effortlessly weaving between English, Pidgin, and deep Igbo proverbs. He doesn't shy away from the darker aspects of the hustle, but there is an underlying sense of triumph and gratitude throughout the project, particularly on the soul-stirring closer, UBIAM ANA.

Released under his IYOO CARTEL imprint, the EP is posied dominated charts in the South-East and even beyond, proving that Jeriq’s connection with his core demographic remains unbreakable. It is a project for the dreamers who stayed the course, a reminder that the hood boy narrative is no longer just about survival, but also about sovereignty. HOOD BOY DREAMS 2 is a definitive statement that Jeriq is not just part of the new school; he is building his own academy.
