DJ A-Tech's POV EP is a Brilliantly Executed Sonic Voyage

In 2023, Afrobeats continued its global takeover pursuit. With just eight months into the year, more albums have been released, Asake continues from where he stopped in 2022, Davido made a comeback album, yet the most Impactful trait has been the mixture of sounds amongst disc jockeys, sound makers and others. While Amapiano continues to lead the trails, DJs have been innovative in making their projects.
Innovation remains the soul of music, an artiste’s innate ability to blend sound across borders, crossbreed genres and more remains iconic.
On August 6th, 2023, the creative Nigerian Disc Jockey and music producer, DJ A-Tech released POV EP,” on digital platforms like Audiomack and Spotify. The initial which stands for Percussion on Vibez is a fifteen-minute-long project with a potpourri of sound, ranging from Afrobeats, R&B and Amapiano. This extended play is an Afro-Piano remix of songs from Afrobeats stars like Davido, Burna Boy, Pheelz and more.
DJ A-Tech, whose real name is Omonira Ayomide, recently graduated from Cardiff Metropolitan University, Cardiff, Wales, UK with a distinction in Advanced Computer Science, also having a BSc. In Mathematics, he brings his scientific and analytical state of mind to bear on this project as he swirls between artists and sound.
“Unavailable,” by Davido kicks off this project mashed with Corruption by Busco, Man Giv SA s Mr Prince DJ. DJ A-Tech spicing things with log drums, kicks and synth taking the song through the Amapiano route. It must have taken some level of brilliance to blend the vocals of Musa Keys and Davido on this song, when the latter vocals come up, the beat goes on. One dominant thing about this track is the multiple instruments stuffed together with the introduction of an African flavour by adding an abundance of rhythmic percussion, at some point, it feels it too much, yet the mixing and mastering obliterate the hassle.
Pheelz's “Finesse,” is the second track on this EP remixed/edited with the drum by Vinny06. This time around, a lot of skip repetition is employed by DJ A-Tech, perhaps, for clarity and emphasis purposes however the essence of the song is not lost on the listeners. The Amapiano is brought to the barest minimum and infused with his signature percussion work making it less chaotic. The space between the interruptions are far in between, unlike the opening track.
Burna Boy comes up on the third track, his track titled “It’s Plenty,” blended with Midnight Prayer by Felo Lee Tee, which becomes the fan’s companion. This track remains the most dynamic in this EP. The sound fading, repetitive bounce makes it a beautiful delight, Burna Boy's vocals come up at intervals on this song with the Amapiano log drums swiftly followed with rhythmic percussion. DJ A-Tech takes the listeners to the club with his cool and clean sound mixing, with the log drums remaining the most prominent instrumental.
On the closer, “Asiwaju,” by Ruger remixed with Tong Po by DJ Cleo, gets the Afro-Piano spin. DJ A-Tech effortlessly shows his sonic prowess as he tweaks the sound, mixes the sound, and at the end, the percussion’s presence is felt, and the fans have a good time out. On this track, the mixing is more moderate, neither high nor low, in between, the message and sound seep in, and not even the repetitive tone could stop the beauty.
Percussion On Vibez (POV) is a stellar show of class, months after he took a short hiatus to focus on his education, it is exhilarating hearing DJ A-Tech again. His months of break had nothing on him. More deeply, it shows that he was in tune with what was happening in the music industry. His level of brilliance and mastery is shown to the world.
