The Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, recently met with Alex Iwobi in a one-on-one session to address the cyberbullying the football star had experienced.

Iwobi had suffered a high level of cyberbullying after the Super Eagle's loss at the AFCON 2023 finals. Rumours were also spreading about him retiring from football. During the meeting, the minister offered words of encouragement and reassurance to Iwobi, emphasising that the majority of fans recognise and appreciate his contributions to the team's success.

His message to Iwobi was one of pride and support, as he stated, "You did your best for your country, and I am proud of you. The leadership and the rest of the country are proud of you. Those who are not are in the far minority and do not speak for the rest of our country, so just be strong. You did your best, you are part of a team that brought home a silver medal, which the country last won at AFCON 2000, 23 years ago. You put in your best, thank you very much."

By publicly expressing support and appreciation for Iwobi's performance, Senator Enoh sends a powerful message against online harassment and stands in solidarity with the football star. It also sets a positive example for addressing the well-being of athletes in the wake of online abuse.
