Nigerian music sensation, Yemi Alade has opened up on the surprising origin of her smash hit single, 'Johnny.'

Speaking in an interview with online personality, Temisan, today, January 16, 2024, the talented singer revealed that the song was not officially released but leaked online.

Alade, who recently graced the AFCON opening ceremony in Cote d'Ivoire, shared that she had no intention of officially releasing the song at first. When asked about the song's massive success, she admitted to sensing its potential impact, even though it wasn't part of her initial plans.

In her words, "I never thought. It was a song that was leaked. I did not even release it officially."

"It was leaked. If you find the picture, it's a picture of me. Yhe profile picture is me with some blund weave holding one white little puppy. It leaked online. It was never officially released. Yes. It probably would never have been released if God found a way to move people and things around and the song," She added.

Emphasizing the unforeseen journey of 'Johnny,' the self acclaimed 'Mama africa' explained that she was on an unsponsored tour, traveling from state to state, and her last stop was in Enugu state, which turned out to be a pivotal moment in her career. Discovering a studio and a supportive producer, she decided to freestyle a song overnight. The result was 'Johnny,' a track everyone deemed promising.

However, upon arriving in Lagos the next day, the unexpected happened – the song leaked online. Alade expressed her frustration, especially considering her ongoing promotional efforts for another song.

Despite her initial annoyance, she soon began receiving calls, witnessing a buzz that started in the East and gradually spread nationwide, ultimately becoming a massive hit outside Nigeria.

In reflecting on the unexpected turn of events, Yemi Alade shared how her original plans differed significantly from what God had in store for her.
