Wizkid's smash hit song, Essence featuring Tems and Justin Bieber has been included on TIME's latest list of the best 100 songs of 2021 on the second spot.
Wizkid's Essence featuring Tems and Justin Bieber has taken the second spot on the recently released list by TIME of the best 100 songs for 2021. The list was shared via their website on Sunday, the 5th of December 2021.
Wizkid's Essence featuring Tems was released as part of his 2020 album, Made in Lagos. The song grew huge globally and attracted the attention of pop superstar, Justin Bieber who promptly requested to be featured on the remix.
Wizkid's Essence has now come in at second place on the Best Songs of 2021 list by TIME, beaten only by Pepas, a song by Puerto Rican singer, Farruko. In third place is Taylor Swift's All Too Well. TIME writer, Neil Jamieson writes;
Wizkid’s sultry “Essence” was already a standout track on his 2020 album, Made in Lagos, thanks to a dulcet assist from fellow Nigerian artist Tems, but the Afrobeats star’s hit became ubiquitous in 2021, after he released a remix of featuring Justin Bieber alongside Tems. The song’s seductive beat and lush vocals make it one of the most easy, luxurious sonic experiences of the year, an ode to longing, to lust, and yes, to love.
