Overview of Wani Responds "God Forbid" In Reaction To Being Called "The New Iyanya"
Up and coming artiste, Wani, has riled Nigerian music lovers. Today, on Twitter, a listener, perhaps having felt some similarities between both artistes compared them, dubbing Wani "the new school Iyanya."
A seemingly innocent assertion, albeit one that has turned quite sour given Wani's response. The newer artiste, who has a critically acclaimed EP, Lagos City Vice, responded in a way most have deemed harsh and disrespectful.

In a period in which Afrofusion star Burna Boy infamously claimed no artiste "paved the way" for him, Wani's comment comes as a representation of the growing tension within artistes across eras in the industry. Of course, we hope Wani takes back his words and apologize; Iyanya is no small artiste.

it’s okay for wani to feel like he’s not the new school iyanya. it’s ok for him to want his path to be diff. they don’t sound / write alike..
but pls never disrespect that man. those hits, those moves & his humility @ his height can’t be taken from him

Iyanya comfortably switched from R&B to afrobeats; still became a huge success, won artist of the year at Headies. Has mega hits; Kukere, Your Waist, Sexy Mama, Mr Oreo & GIFT! Introduced “Etighi” dance to the world. Signed TEKNO to his label.
DON’T DISRESPECT THAT CALABAR BOY!
