TomTom BTI Verse Challenge heats up in Agege with unprecedented show of talent

Lagos, Nigeria – May 12, 2025 – Just one week after a sensational kickoff in Yaba, the 2025 TomTom Breathe Through It (BTI) Verse Challenge, Barz on Wheelz rolled into Agege, turning up the volume on raw talent and street energy.

Held at the Amoo Football Pitch on Saturday, May 10, the Agege edition drew over 100 contestants for what became a fiercely contested showdown of lyrical power, creativity, and authenticity. Contestants delivered dynamic verses, many incorporating elements from their immediate environment, proving not only their skill, but also their ability to adapt, improvise, and reflect real street stories.

Judges for the day, Afro-street hitmaker Small Doctor, rap sensation Candy Bleakz, and John Paul, Music Director at the Catholic Church, Isolo Deanery, were visibly impressed by the depth of talent and competitive fire displayed throughout the event. DJ 4kerty once again brought the vibe with a continuous stream of energetic music that kept the crowd fully engaged.

So intense was the level of performance that TomTom’s brand team invoked an unprecedented twist, allowing for the selection of a first runner-up in addition to the winner, underscoring the brand’s commitment to recognizing and nurturing outstanding grassroots talent.

Crowned winner of the Agege edition was Lukuman Kamilu, also known as Leekee, whose confident delivery, smooth flow, and thought-provoking lyrics wowed both the judges and the crowd. Haruna Mohammed, aka Dannyboi, emerged as the first runner-up after delivering a gripping performance that showcased passion and lyrical maturity.

Leekee received a ₦1 million cash prize, a six-month supply of TomTom, and a coveted spot in the TomTom Breathe Academy, a creative hub designed to offer mentorship and brand-building opportunities. Dannyboi was awarded ₦300,000, a six-month supply of TomTom, and also secured a spot in the Breathe Academy.

Reflecting on the powerful talent on display, Abidemi Ajayi, Category Manager, Gum and Candy, Cadbury West Africa, stated that, “What we witnessed in Agege was nothing short of incredible. The performances by Leekee and Dannyboi proved that sometimes, one winner just isn’t enough.”

The BTI Verse Challenge, Barz on Wheelz tour continues its Lagos-wide journey, with the next stop scheduled for Oshodi on Saturday, May 17, followed by Ikorodu on Saturday, May 24. With the bar raised even higher, the streets are ready, and so is TomTom.
