The highlife duo sent an indirect message to the organisers of the award about the category they were nominated in.
Prolific Nigerian highlife band, The Cavemen, has sent an indirect message to the organisers of the Headies award after their recent nomination.
The Headies Awards show, which celebrates the Nigerian music scene and is scheduled to take place on Sunday 4th September 2022 at the COBB Energy Performing Arts Center in Atlanta, USA, rolled out its nomination list yesterday, May 25th 2022.
With Wizkid, Ayra Starr, and Brymo leading the list of nominess, the Cavemen, consisting of sibling duo Kingsley Okorie, a bassist, and Benjamin James, a drummer, also bagged nominations in the "best alternative song" and "best alternative album" categories.
However, the highlife band took to their twitter page to express their opinion on being nominated in the alternative category when, in actuality, they are a highlife band. They wrote:
"Highlife is not an alternative, o" which translates to" Highlife is not alternative," sending a message to the organisers that they were nominated in the wrong category.
