The songstress made it known that the song was originally written differently.

Nigerian ace singer and songwriter Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has made a shocking revelation about her popular song Higher.

The song off her 2020 project For Broken Ears, which was interpolated by American rapper Future on the Billboard smash and Grammy-winning song Wait for U, featuring Drake and also crediting the leading vibe as a featured act, apparently originally had different lyrics.

According to Grammy Award-winning artist Tems, who spilled the beans on her X page on Sunday, August 25, 2024, part of the hook of the song (which is the most popular part) originally read "I won't wait for you" instead of what is now widely sung as "I will wait for you."

The 29-year-old explained that she performed the song in a British accent, which led to the mix-up. Interestingly, the global superstar, like everyone else, has accepted that the transformed lyrics are now the official ones. Her tweets read:

Maybe now it’s time for me to confess that it was always “I won’t wait for you” but I sang it in a British accent 😩 so it came out as “wun” 😭

It’s officially “I will wait” now though
I just thought it was funny af 😭😭😭
