Tems dedicates her Billboard Breakthrough award to her mum

Award-winning artist Tems took home the prestigious Breakthrough award at the 2024 Billboard Women In Music.

The Award ceremony recognizes the leading ladies of Music. Billboard honors rising artists, creators, producers, and executives for their contributions to the industry and community. Tracee Ellis Ross, renowned for her iconic portrayal in Black-ish, took the helm as the vibrant host of the Award ceremony. The event happened live on March 6th, 2024 at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles.

Formidable industry ladies like Pink Panthress, 3x Grammy winner Victoria Monet, K-pop girl group New Jeans, Ice Spice, Justin Skye, Saweetie, and Coco Jones attended the prestigious award ceremony. Karol G won the award for Woman of the Year presented by Sofia Vergara.

Tems took home the award for Breakthrough award and was the cover of Billboard Women in Music Issue. The talented artist performed Not an Angel during the ceremony. While collecting the award she dedicated it to her mum. She said "My heart hasn't stopped beating for the past 30 minutes. One thing that is uniquely special to me is that I am in a room full of amazing women and I am standing with a continent behind me. I want to dedicate this award to my mum who is the first woman I ever met".

Billboard described her as a catalyst for the new generation of women in Music. The issue said, "While Tiwa Savage and Yemi Alade led the charge for African female artists in the 2010s, in this decade, Tems has paved the way for a new generation that also includes Ayra Starr and Tyla".
