South African rapper, Nasty C reveals his top 5 Nigerian rappers

South African rapper Nasty C, a prominent figure in the continent's music scene, shared his top 5 Nigerian rappers in an interview with Glitch Africa.

Taking the coveted top spot on Nasty C's list is the legendary hip-hop icon M.I Abaga. With a career spanning over a decade, M.I Abaga has not only contributed significantly to the genre but also garnered multiple awards for his outstanding work.

Securing the second position is Olamide Baddo, a trailblazer whose influence has been instrumental in popularising rap in Nigeria. His accolades, commercial success, and undeniable influence have solidified his status as one of the country's most celebrated artists.

Claiming the third spot is Phyno, an Igbo-speaking rap star known for his massive impact on the continent. His contribution to the dominance of local rap artists has earned him recognition and admiration within the industry.

In the fourth and fifth positions, Nasty C acknowledges the rising stars ODUMODUBLVCK and Blaqbonez. ODUMODUBLVCK, a breakout artist in 2023, is credited with inspiring a commercial resurgence for hip-hop in Nigeria. His recent release, the deluxe version of EZIOKWU, features a collaboration with Nasty C, showcasing the growing international appeal of Nigerian hip-hop.

Blaqbonez, a new school frontline star, takes the fifth spot. His genre-fusion music, incorporating contemporary elements and innovative marketing approaches, places him at the forefront of advancing hip-hop in Nigeria.

Nasty C, reflecting on his musical journey, has previously shared that Nigerian stars such as Wande Coal and Phyno played significant roles in shaping his artistic influences.
