In the video, African mothers were portrayed as being noisy and eating in an awkward manner, which led to a heavy backlash on social media from Africans who saw the video. One such person to have reacted to the video was the award-winning singer Simi, who took to her platform to call out the people behind the video and also clear the air that African women do not actually act like that when they go out together.

The singer shared a post on X, which is formerly known as Twitter, that expressed her distaste for the video, as it read, "That video about African moms where they looked a mess and were eating like dogs made me mad af. I don't know anybody's mom that acts like that. Y'all get your jokes together."
