Seun Kuti talks about the Yahoo culture in Nigeria
Legendary musician Seun Kuti is sparking conversation online after his comments on the issue of "Yahoo boys" in Nigeria.
Yahoo boys is a term used for individuals involved in online scams targeting people overseas. In a recent now-viral video, Kuti argued that simply arresting these scammers won't solve Nigeria's deeper problems.
"If they arrest every single yahoo boy in Nigeria today, nothing go change," Kuti is quoted as saying. He implies that these scams are a symptom of a larger issue, possibly referring to lack of opportunity or economic hardship. Kuti went on to question why there isn't more focus on the corrupt officials who siphon off billions of dollars from the country's oil revenue.
This isn't the first time Kuti has used his platform to speak out about social issues in Nigeria. The son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, Seun is known for his socially conscious music and activism.
