'RESIGN NOW!' - Falz demands President Tinubu step down over rising insecurity

Nigerian rapper and social activist Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has urged President Bola Tinubu to resign over the worsening security situation in the country.

His call follows the abduction of 25 students of Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, the killing of Brigadier General Musa Uba in Borno State and the terrorists attack of a branch of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Kwara State.

Falz made the statement for President Bola Tinubu to resign on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 in a post on X, where he referenced a 2014 tweet in which the president, then an opposition leader, demanded that former President Goodluck Jonathan resign for failing to curb insecurity.

Quoting Tinubu’s exact words from the past, Falz wrote: “You have consistently shown your unwillingness to protect the lives and property of our people despite pretending to care in the past. RESIGN NOW!”

The original tweet from November 2014, shared seven months after the Chibok schoolgirls were abducted, read: “Why should any part of this country be under occupation? In any civilized country, Jonathan should resign.”

Tinubu had made similar remarks earlier that year during a speech in Ilorin, accusing the Jonathan administration of dishonesty and incompetence in handling the Boko Haram insurgency.
At the time, he said: “I saw the sea of displaced persons caused by the Boko Haram insurgents and the lies coming from Jonathan’s administration. They have exhibited failure, lack of capacity, vision, creativity; the lie of yesterday is what they repeat today.”

He also questioned why any Nigerian territory should be overrun by insurgents, declaring: “If you control the armed forces and you are the Commander-in-Chief… why should any part of this country be under occupation? In any civilized country, Jonathan should resign.”

Falz’s criticism comes amid growing national outrage over recent attacks. The massacre and abduction in Kebbi, where a vice principal was killed, and the terrorists attack of a branch of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Kwara State, have amplified concerns about rising insecurity under the current administration.

The rapper’s statement echoes growing international attention to Nigeria’s security challenges. Just a day earlier, American rapper Nicki Minaj addressed the United Nations alongside US Ambassador to the UN Michael Waltz, calling for urgent action to protect Nigerian Christians from persecution, emphasizing peace, unity, and freedom of worship, and commending former US President Donald Trump for raising awareness about the issue.
