The news of the artists being considered for the soundtrack of the new Black Panther movie has now drawn plenty of reactions due to the notable absence of African artists on the roster. The news was shared via Twitter on Thursday, the 30th of December 2021.
A Black Panther fan page named @bpanthernews revealed on Twitter that Brent Faiyaz, The Weeknd, Doja Cat, Stormzy, and Solange were the artists being considered for the project.
Kendrick Lamar was the executive producer for the original soundtrack to 2018’s Black Panther which featured the likes of Schoolboy Q, 2 Chainz, The Weeknd, and Travis Scott.
The news of the artists being shortlisted for the soundtrack of the new Black Panther movie has drawn many reactions with people asking why African artists have not been included. African music, especially Afrobeats has had quite a resurgence in recent year, and people feel like they should have a degree of representation on the new project.
