Portable sparks outrage with comments opposing planned nationwide protest
Controversial Nigerian singer Portable has faced backlash after speaking out against the planned nationwide protest scheduled for August 1-10, 2024.
The protest, organised in response to the rising cost of living under President Bola Tinubu's administration, has gained significant support from average Nigerians.
However, Portable argued in an Instagram post that the nationwide protest is unnecessary, labelling participants as "jobless." Also, he warned against being asked to perform during the protest and suggested that those urging him to join should take up the cause themselves.
Meanwhile, Portable attributed the planned protest to laziness. He implied that participants are not serious about their jobs. He stated, "Fight for yourself, not for Nigeria. Nigeria is okay, you are the one who is not okay."
Portable's comments have sparked outrage, with many criticizing his insensitive and dismissive stance on the economic struggles faced by Nigerians. The singer's remarks have further fueled the controversy surrounding his outspoken nature.
