Olamide Reveals Why He Signed Asake, Fireboy, Adekunle Gold & Others
The highly respected rapper and music executive gave reasons why he signed some of the biggest names in the Nigerian music scene.
Nigerian ace rapper and music executive, Olamide Adedeji, popularly known as Olamide, has opened up about why he decided to sign acts like Asake, Fireboy, Adekunle Gold, and others when he did.
The YBNL boss, who has signed or co-signed nothing less than fifteen artistes who went on to become known in the Nigerian music scene and even beyond, continues to walk that path. Names like Viktoh, Lil Kesh, Adekunle Gold, Chinko Ekun, Zlatan, Naira Marley, Picasso, Lyta, Davolee, the late Olanrewaju Pele Pele, Temmie Ovwasa, DJ Enimoney, Pheelz, Fireboy DML, Asake, Young Jonn, and more are all acts that in one way or another benefitted from the help of the legendary baddo.
Speaking in an interview with Apple Music's Ebro Darden, Olamide stated that he decided to start signing new acts when he realized that he was accumulating so much wealth that it could cater to more than just his own needs and wants. According to the father of one, he didn't know what to do with that much money, so he resorted to giving back to the community by signing talented acts who needed help to elevate their careers. He said:
I just started stacking up money and the money was becoming too much for me. I was like, ‘Yo, I don’t have anything to do with this money. I need to sign new guys. Let me spend money on people. You know it is just like my own way of giving back to society.
