Nigerian social media activist VeryDarkMan has disclosed in a recent video published online that Nigerian rapper Naira Marley owed his late former signee, Mohbad, a substantial sum of money.

This revelation comes amidst ongoing controversies surrounding Mohbad’s untimely death and his acrimonious exit from Naira Marley’s record label, Marlian Music.

Mohbad, whose full name was Ilerioluwa Aloba, tragically passed away on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27. His death shocked the Afrobeats community and left fans demanding answers. Today, January 3, 2025, marks what would have been his 29th birthday, making the ongoing discussions surrounding his legacy and career even more poignant.

In a video shared on social media, VeryDarkMan revealed his interactions with Naira Marley regarding the money allegedly owed to Mohbad. According to VDM, Naira Marley admitted to owing Mohbad a "significant amount" and shared details about their fallout.

“Their problem started when Mohbad began working outside the record label’s contract and requested to change the management the label provided for him,” VDM stated.

Despite being allowed to address the issue publicly, Naira Marley reportedly declined, stating that he would leave the matter for God to resolve. This stance has fuelled further speculation and criticism, with many fans continuing to blame Naira Marley for Mohbad’s struggles both during and after their professional relationship.

Mohbad’s exit from Marlian Music in 2022 was fraught with allegations of contractual breaches and personal grievances. He accused Naira Marley and his associates of harassment, which he detailed in various social media posts before his passing. These accusations were met with widespread public support for Mohbad, as well as scrutiny of Naira Marley’s leadership of the label.

Since Mohbad’s death, there has been an outpouring of grief and calls for justice, with fans urging authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding his life and career. Naira Marley, for his part, has faced significant backlash, including the loss of brand endorsements and a tarnished public image.
