Mikel Obi explains why he thinks Messi deserved the FIFA Best Player award

Former Super Eagles captain, Mikel Obi, has stated that Lionel Messi deserved to win the 2023 FIFA Best Player of the Year award ahead of Erling Haaland.
In an interview, Mikel Obi said, "They've lost only one in nine or 10 games. They create chances, score goals, and know how to win games without Haaland." He added, "I think Messi did more than Haaland to win it."
The debate over who deserved to win the FIFA Best Men's Player of the Year award has sparked various opinions, including that of Mikel Obi.
Lionel Messi was eventually announced as the winner of the award, beating Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe. Messi, however, did not attend the ceremony amid rumors that Haaland was the favorite to win over him and Mbappe.
