Mercy Chinwo takes legal action over controversial allegations

Renowned Nigerian gospel singer Mercy Chinwo has taken legal action against social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman (VDM), over allegations of defamation.
Apparently, VDM had publicly accused Mercy Chinwo of making "shady" statements regarding her dispute with her former manager. In response, the singer has filed a lawsuit at the Abuja High Court, demanding N1.1 billion in damages.
A court document dated March 3, 2025, revealed that Chinwo, through her legal representative Pelumi Olajengbesi, is also seeking a public apology from VDM. Additionally, the suit requires him to delete and retract all allegations made against her, with a mandatory court appearance within 14 days.
To support her claims, Chinwo reportedly presented documented evidence, including emails and payment receipts, to counter VDM’s accusations. The social media activist had previously made multiple videos suggesting bias in the legal proceedings, alleging that the judge overseeing the case was a fan of Chinwo and that an EFCC official involved had ties to her husband.
As Mercy Chinwo has taken legal action against Verydarkman, the lawsuit has sparked widespread reactions, with many closely watching how the case will be resolved.
