Manchester United's transfer move leaves David De Gea stunned
The transfer window ahead of the 2023/24 season is not going according to plan for Manchester United and David De Gea
Manchester United has turned the tables in the contract extension talks with Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea which raises questions about his future at the club. According to numerous reports, the Red Devils have backed out of their first contract agreement with De Gea and have offered a new contract with lesser pay than what was agreed on in the first talks.
This might just be a clear indicator of the owner's approach for the Spanish goalie after he was also excluded from the end-of-the-year squad list, as the goalkeeper's contract at the club would expire on June 30, 2023.
This fresh development also indicates that Erik Ten Hag might have his eyes set on getting another goalkeeper before the 2023/2024 season starts, with Man United being linked to Inter Milan's Andre Onana and second-choice goalkeeper Dean Henderson also another option for The Reds
The Athletic confirmed United's new plans for De Gea in a published post that read, David de Gea signed a contract extension with Manchester United only for the club to back out of the agreed proposal. De Gea, 32, agreed to a drastic reduction on his current £375,000 per week wages, but the club did not sign the contract. And they have now submitted a new proposal to De Gea, whose contract expires on June 30, with an even lower salary. This is yet to be agreed by the goalkeeper, who wants to continue playing at the highest level and is now considering his options. Discussions between the two parties are ongoing and it remains in the balance as to whether De Gea will accept the new offer that was put in front of him. There is interest in him from Saudi Arabia.
