Afrobeat singer CKay said that his most viral song Love Nwantiti has no Nigerian award.

Ckay's Love Nwantiti emerged as one of the most significant songs of 2019, serving as a pivotal moment in Afrobeat's evolution. The melodic love song has amassed over 800 million streams on Spotify's digital music service. Released in 2019, the hit song went viral on TikTok. Many users had no clue as to who sang the song initially.

On November 9, 2021, Love Nwantiti achieved a groundbreaking milestone, surpassing 15 billion streams on TikTok and securing its position as the biggest global hit of 2021, according to the Bytedance platform. During his appearance on the Afrobeats Podcast with Shopsydoo, CKay expressed his concerns regarding present-day award ceremonies.

He said "Well I have my reservation about awards in general because I feel there's so much involved and the people who run the awards I don't know the workings behind it. I have seen so many situations where music that was deserving both at home and internationally not just the Grammy doesn't get any recognition. This interesting that this same song that is 6 times platinum has no award in Nigeria".

The melodic singer went on to say that a son which is almost at a billion streams and has no award begs a lot of questions. He went on to question what metrics are being used. So far Love Nwantiti has bagged only three nominations and has one one win for Most Performed International Song

  • City People Music Award- Best Collab of the Year 2020
  • BRIT Awards- Best International Song 2022
